What is Betting
EV?

EV stands for “Expected Value” — it’s how you measure whether a bet is worth making by comparing the probability of a pick against its Betting Odds. Bookmakers typically bake in a 9.09% edge in their favor, so if you bet without any advantage, you’re expected to lose over time. That’s not opinion — it’s math.

What are
Betting Odds?

American odds are centered around $100.

Negative odds (-): How much a bettor needs to risk to win $100. At -110 odds, they would need to risk $110 to win $100; at -300 odds, they would need to risk $300 to win $100, etc.

Positive odds (+): How much risking $100 would pay out in a win. At +110 odds, a $100 bet would pay out $110; at +300 odds, the $100 bet would pay out $300, etc.

So you can see: betting odds are incredibly important to determining the value of a bet.

What is a
Line/Spread?

Also referred to as Runline (baseball) or Puckline (hockey) – think of it as a handicap: A spread bet levels the playing field between teams of differing strength. Favorites typically get a (-) line and unerdogs get a (+) line.

Negative line (-): How much a team needs to win by to cover. If a team has a -4.5 line, then they need to win by at least 5 for their bet to win – so even if they win by 3, their bet would still lose.

Positive line (+): The opposite of the (-) line, a +4.5 team just needs to lose by less than 5 points (or win outright).

If a line is an even number (i.e. +5.0) and the final score falls on that line, then the bet is voided as a “push”.

Negative (-) EV?

Positive (+) EV?

Negative EV (-EV) means you’re betting into bad odds. Maybe not today, but long-term you’ll lose. For example, a 50/50 bet at -110 odds needs to win 52.4% of the time just to break even. If you dont think you have a better chance than that, you’re betting bad value.

Positive EV (+EV) means you think the odds underestimate the true chance of winning. If you believe an outcome has a 55% chance and the odds are +110, that’s a +EV bet. But without an edge — data, insight, or inefficiencies in the line — you’re just guessing.

To put it bluntly: Good bets aren’t about “feeling lucky.” They’re about spotting mispriced odds and betting with purpose.

The Hidden Danger: Volatility

Even with +EV, you can lose money if your bets swing too wildly. That’s volatility drag — the way big losses cancel out big wins. Consistent, moderate returns beat hot streaks and cold crashes. Smart bettors manage risk.

That means sizing bets to survive variance, even when they’re confident. A 55% edge doesn’t mean you go all-in — it means you bet smarter, not bigger.

How do WE
Find EV?

We use machine learning and AI to forecast games and spot value.
That includes:
  • Feature engineering
  • Statistical modeling
  • Forecasting matchups
  • Screening for +EV opportunities
Then we limit exposure, reduce volatility, and post everything.
— even the -EV picks, even the losses. No gimmicks. No “locks.” Just transparent, data-driven analysis.
